The 2014-15 academic year marks the seventh year that EPIC has partnered with the University of North Carolina General Administration to create and carry out an agenda of research designed to better understand teacher and school leader quality in North Carolina and to provide educator preparation programs in the UNC system with research evidence to inform program improvement efforts.  Current research items include (1) estimating the effectiveness of teachers entering the profession through different portals or prepared at different UNC system institutions; (2) evaluating the predictive validity of teacher performance assessments; (3) examining the relationship between personality traits and teacher performance and persistence; (4) investigating how the characteristics of student teaching placements and cooperating teachers impact beginning teacher outcomes; and (5) examining the role of the assistant principalship as integral component of school principal preparation.
