Valoree Hanson

Adjunct Teaching Assistant Professor

As the Director of Restorative Practices at DSC, Inc., Val Hanson integrates her passion for conflict transformation by helping educators, organizations, and community members learn about and utilize Restorative Practices.  Val facilitates and trains across North Carolina, including restorative justice processes for District and Superior Court, Juvenile Justice, schools, community organizations, law enforcement, and self-referred clients.  She has mediated more than five hundred cases, including District Court, Medicaid appeals, youth in conflict, and community referrals.

Val has trained over a thousand K-12 teachers and administrators in restorative practices and has taught courses on Restorative Justice at Guilford College.  She facilitates with men incarcerated for life and on death row, international Rotary Peace Fellows, school resource officers, social justice collaboratives, prosecutors and defense attorneys, cultural arts organizations, and anyone curious about revealing connection across difference.

Val earned her Juris Doctor from NCCU School of Law, with a Certificate in Dispute Resolution, and her B.A. in History from NCSU.
