Jiayi Bao is an Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Entrepreneurship in the Department of Public Policy and the Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on human capital strategy and workplace diversity issues in different contexts of entrepreneurial forms and phases, drawing from the rich interplay of phenomenon and theory at the intersection of strategy, human resource management, and entrepreneurship. Linking macro patterns to micro behavior, her work exploits a variety of methods including theoretical modeling, qualitative data analysis, econometric analysis of archival data, and experimental design.
Prof. Bao’s research has been published in various academic journals such as Organization Science and featured in media outlets such as World Economic Forum, BBC, and Grow by Facebook. She has won a number of awards for her research, including the 2018 Kauffman Knowledge Challenge Grant and the Co-Winner of the 2020 Wharton People Analytics Research Paper Competition.
Prof. Bao received her Ph.D. from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Wharton, she worked in multiple organizations including PIMCO, Merrill Lynch, and Mizuho.
