Professor of Educational Leadership

Kathleen Brown is a Professor of Educational Leadership at UNC-Chapel Hill, and has over 25 years of teaching and administrative experience having served as a middle school teacher and elementary and middle school principal in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Brown’s research interests include social justice and equity, diversity and cross-cultural understanding, and principal preparation programs. Brown leads the RttT evaluation of the NC Regional Leadership Academies (RLA), an initiative aimed toward increasing the number of principals qualified to lead transformational change in low-performing, high-need schools in both rural and urban areas. She is also a member of the RttT District and School Transformation evaluation team. Brown’s methodological expertise is concentrated in empirical studies that employ intensive interviewing and/or case study techniques triangulated with survey, observation and/or document analysis data.
